What Do You Need?

As I was reflecting on all the craziness that my wife and I have been experiencing these past few years, an interesting thought struck me. But before I share it with you, I have some questions to ponder.

What do you need right now? In what areas of your life do you feel lacking in? Are you a little short on funds? Do you need physical healing? Or perhaps you have a boss who is making your life miserable. Maybe someone near and dear to you seems to be either unable or unwilling to accept some piece of truth that is so clear to you, and that makes you feel so sad. Or perhaps you are feeling so lonely for one reason or another. Perhaps you are feeling angry or disappointed with God for not answering your heart-felt prayers and pleas for mercy.

Well, let me share with you a little secret: whatever state of life you find yourself in, that is precisely what you need at this point in time.

You see, every time we experience some kind of negative emotion or reaction, chances are that it is God’s way of trying to get our attention. Just like physical pain is the body’s way of trying to tell us that something is not right, emotional pain is our soul’s manner of doing the same on the spiritual level.

As we explored in the recent post The Enormity of Eternity, this present life is just a preparatory journey toward our eternal home. Given this, let me gently challenge you to take the time to seriously look at your present struggle and ask our Lord to give you the grace to see it through His eyes. You just might be pleasantly surprised at what He reveals to you. If you will humbly and sincerely seek this from the Lord, the end result will surely be real peace and true freedom.

✝ Dear Lord Jesus, give me the courage to face the things that are weighing me down. As I quiet my heart and my spirit in Your presence, give me Your eternal perspective in these matters. Help me to truly learn all that you are trying to teach me through them, so that I can experience the peace, healing and freedom that You so ardently desire to give me. Help me to truly know how much You love me despite myself, and how much I can really trust You with my whole being. I do thank You for being so loving and patient with me, and for not giving up on me. ✝

Matthew 6:31-33 (NAB)
So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear? All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.
